mhmm... I am a big believer in the trickle down effect. Start where we are, and conduct ourselves as we'd like to see other women conducting themselves. It's really easy to become overwhelmed and burn out, so I think you have to find the places you feel passion, and feed those. My thoughts :) Thank you for sharing yours!

I think about this often. I just don't know what will change this. I think that women have a lot of self hatred. I think we carry deep pain, and then punch it into each other just to maintain. The women who say they hate women, make me so sad. This wouldn't happen if the self hatred didn't stem from within. We can talk about equality all day, but what is it that's driving us to treat each other so horribly? How can we demand respect for women when WE don't respect women ourselves. It has to start there.

This is so sad, but true!

For some reason, women hate women. We get jealous of each other and spiteful and never give each other the benefit of the doubt. My husband can walk up to a pretty girl around my age and get amazing customer service, I try and suddenly I'm a bother and an inconvenience! I think we need to start with the way we view and treat each other every day, then move on to bigger things like advocating for our gender. If we don't even have a strong foundation of coming together in our everyday lives, how can we come together in the face of more difficult situations like this?

Men have unspoken "guy codes" in which they don't mention certain things around other dudes out of respect or will always take a dude's side over a girl's even if he disagrees with him. Why don't women do this? Why don't we stick together no matter what, too? It's so sad.

I think this is true in a lot of situations: sexism, racism, inequality, unfairness...it's easier not to take a stand, especially if people aren't violently affected. Complacency is probably as destructive as acts of violence and injustice, but I have no idea what the answer is, how to motivate people, how to get people angry over things that aren't right. And I'm the first to admit I've been guilty of this in the past.

oh Bad cat Norman! I decided I would start closing the cat window at night when I go to bed, which means my cats have to get used to peeing before we go to sleep. I also moved their food into the garage, well away and out of the way, of where it was in the kitchen. Our mean girl cat isn;t gonna find our set up quite so stray cat friendly. I hope she takes the hint and goes on her merry feline way!

Stop Oppression of Women in the Third World

http://stopow.tumblr.com/

We are a new organization that is committed to stopping the oppression of women in the third world countries.

Women in the Third World suffer considerably from the following problems:

-daily domestic violence

-brutal rape and torture

-patriarchal culture without any moderation

-abusive men

-honor killings

-forced poverty and are unable to free themselves since women are considered as property, not human beings, in many third world countries

We are committed to trying to END this oppression. One of our goals is to create a political lobby or organization that lobbies for visas for single or divorced women from third world countries, so that we can bring them to the West and help them escape the abuse, rape, poverty, and violence of the patriarchal system in most third world countries.

If you are interesting in helping out by donating, or web designing, or campaigning for us, please drop me a line at sowtw1987 AT hotmail DOT com
